Without reflection, we go blindly on our way, creating more unintended consequences, and failing to achieve anything useful.
~ Margaret J. Wheatley
The IPA is extremely excited to start a year-long conversation on the power of self-reflection for school leaders. It is hard to find a school leader that does not believe in the value of reflection and self-assessment, but it has been our experience that this is one area that becomes difficult to maintain as the stress of life and job close in around us. Our hope is to keep reflection at the forefront of everyone’s mind through our new initiative REFLECT: 365. REFLECT: 365, beginning July 1st, 2015, will provide a weekly reflective question to Illinois principals and an accompanying blog from a fellow educational leader. This is where you come in!!
We would like you to consider writing a 500-700 word blog in response to one (or more!) of these questions.
Our hope is that this is a mutually beneficial venture. We look to provide a great service to our principals and others through social media and other electronic outreach. In doing so, we believe that we can serve you by:
Providing an avenue for you to contribute to the profession,
Extending your professional learning network (PLN),
Allowing you to promote your personal brand and expand your reach.
The next step is for you to let us know if you are interested in helping support the growth of your peers and colleagues. Please let us know ASAP by emailing me at firstname.lastname@example.org. Once you commit, we will follow-up with additional information including deadlines and submission requirements.
We are excited for this opportunity and for you to be part of it. Thank you in advance for your support of REFLECT: 365.
P.S. My thanks to P.J. Caposey, author, speaker, and Superintendent of Meridian CUSD 223, for his efforts to initiate this important statewide learning opportunity.
